Our
investments speak louder than words
Shell Companies in Egypt are wholly owned by the Royal Dutch/ Shell Group of Companies. Active in Egypt since 1911, our business today spans Upstream Oil and Gas Exploration and Downstream marketing services.
In the upstream, most of our operations are located in the Western Desert. Our business portfolio includes stakes in the following concessions: Badr El Din, Obayied, Matruh, North East Abu Gharadig and Matruh-off and onshore in the Western Desert. In the Nile Delta we have Rosetta, North West Damietta and, in the ultra deep water, North East Mediterranean.
In the downstream, Shell Marketing Egypt (SME) aims at meeting customer needs by delivering high quality service and products through our retail sites, commercial lubricants and bunkering operations. SME's performance over the last twelve years reflects on the positive improvement of Shell brand preference and awareness. In 1999 we embarked on a new gas distribution business taking shares in Natgas and forming Fayum gas, two companies transporting gas direct to industrial and domestic customers. In 2002 we will complete preparations to start up Gas Express, a company which will market compressed natural gas for cars.
Shell Egypt’s producing assets today deliver a total of 37,000 barrels of oil and 700 million scf of gas, per day. Our retail stations are among the busiest in Egypt and we anticipate a doubling of customers hooked up to our gas distribution systems. Our ongoing commitment to the Egyptian economy is clear: Shell companies in Egypt have invested over $3 billion, since inception, and we have ambitious plans for further in the coming years.
Finally, at Shell in Egypt we serve the local community by demonstrating, through our operations, a commitment to sustainable development. For us, this means integrating sustainability into the core of the business in Egypt, making it integral to all major business decisions.
