Performance
Shell Egypt has introduced its own Environmental Management System since 1992 and its integrated HSE Management System in 1996. Hence in 1998 Shell Egypt was the first exploration company in Egypt to acquire International certification against the ISO 14001 Standard.
Shell Egypt achieved a number of “firsts” in the HSE field. Shell Egypt was the first oil company to receive the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001 certificate on 18th June 2002. This certification covers all Exploration Activities (Seismic Surveys, Drilling Operations, Land Transport, and Geological Laboratory).
The certificate confirms that we meet an internationally recognized criterion for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Specifications. By obtaining the OHSAS 18001. Shell Egypt also renewed, for the seventh year running, its ISO 14001 environmental certificate, making Shell Egypt the first Exploration and production Company in Egypt to hold both the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 simultaneously.
Fayum Gas, one of Shell Companies in Egypt, was also awarded OHSAS 18001 certification on 19th June 2002 thus becoming the first and only Local Gas Distribution Company in Egypt to obtain this certification covering Natural Gas pipeline and network design, procurement, construction, operation, marketing, sales and distribution.
In 2003, Shell Egypt reached another significant milestone when Bapetco, Shell’s joint venture with EGPC, became the first JV Company in Egyptian petroleum sector to obtain OHSAS 18001.
