President Abdel Fattah El Sisi underlined the importance of diversifying the sources of Egypt's access to electricity, especially through new and renewable energy sources.
This came during his meeting with Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker, according to presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef. The minister reviewed ongoing efforts to ensure the regularity of power supply in the country. He added that periodic maintenance of all power plants would be completed within April to ensure a highly efficient production of electricity. Sisi praised steps taken to provide electricity for the Egyptian citizens and ordered to continue work with the same pace to ensure quality and performance rates during the summer season, and especially with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, the spokesman said. The minister reviewed the progress in the current negotiations on the final contracts of the Dabaa plant which aims to produce electricity using nuclear power. Shaker also briefed the president on his ministry's efforts to provide land to investors for the production of electricity and renewable energy according to the state's plan that aims to achieve a 20 percent of electricity production based on new and renewable energy by 2022, in line with Egypt's obligations under the Paris climate change agreement.
