Cairo, January 9, 2004 – Sumed renovation activities will be completed by February 2004 with 100% Egyptian expertise. Alexandria Petroleum Maintenance Co. “Petromaint” and “Petrojet” are the companies who handled the renovation project for almost a year with a total cost of LE 45 million.
The renovation project involves establishing three new storage tanks in Sidi Kerir port to increase the storage capacity for the transported oil from Ain Sukhna port. Also the central control unit of Sumed pipeline will soon operate to control the transmission operation along the pipeline and at the Ain Sukhna and Sidi Kerir terminals.
The Sumed pipeline links the Ain Sukhna terminal on the Gulf of Suez with Sidi Kerir on the Mediterranean. Sumed consists of two parallel 42-inch lines, and is owned by Arab Petroleum Pipeline Co., a joint venture between Egypt (50%), Saudi Arabia (15%), Kuwait (15%), the U.A.E. (15%), and Qatar (5%).
