The expected cabinet reshuffle announced by Egypt Prime Minister Ahmed Shafik is to exclude Sameh Fahmy, the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and a prominent member of the former ruling National Democratic Party.
Fahmy was part of the new government formed by Prime Minister-designate Ahmed Shafik following a week of violent protests. A former EGPC board member, Fahmy held his ministerial role since 1999. Fahmy is a chemical engineer brought to the cabinet by Prime Minister Obeid. In 1996 Fahmy was made chairman of the Sumed crude oil pipeline venture. Immediately as he became minister, he got the government to endorse plans to export gas in LNG form and by pipeline. |
