BG Egypt, a subsidiary of BG Group, said on Sunday it had started gas production from its Sequoia subsea development.
Egypt's largest natural gas producer said the project, which represents a $1 billion investment, would help maintain plateau production. BG Egypt's production accounts for over 40 percent of the country's gas output. "We are proud to have successfully delivered another development which will contribute to the country's long-term domestic and export energy requirements," Tim Blackford, asset general manager of BG Egypt, said in an e-mailed statement. The project was delivered six months ahead of schedule, he said. Sequoia is a unitised development, which straddles both the West Delta Deep Marine and Rosetta concessions and lies 90 kilometers offshore Egypt in the Mediterranean Sea. It brings into production six new subsea wells, three located in each of the concessions. BG Group holds a 62.99 percent unit interest in Sequoia while Malaysia's Petronas holds a 28.35 percent stake, while Italy's Edison holds 8.6 percent. |
