Eng. Sameh Fahmi, Minister of Petroleum, announced the production and manufacture completion of two oil rigs; "2" and "3" from the onshore rigs factory in Suez of the Egyptian – Chinese Petroleum Company for manufacturing oil rigs, after succeeding in manufacturing the first onshore oil rig (Mubarak – 1), in December 2007, for the first time in Egypt's and Africa's history.
The Minister of Petroleum received a report from Eng. Mohamed El Gohari, the Company's Chairman, in which he clarified that the already manufactured oil rigs "2" and "3", will be transported to the fields of Agiba Co., in the Western Desert as well as El Wastani Petroleum Co., in the Delta area to be used in oil and gas exploration operations.
The Company's Chairman added that preparations for production and manufacture of the drilling rigs 4 and 5 are currently underway. It is worth mentioning that, production and manufacture of on shore drilling rigs factory was executed in a time record of one year, with Egyptian – Chinese investments of $ 30 million. Planned production capacity of the plant will reach 20 drilling rigs in 2011. This is considered one of the fruits of President Mubarak's visit to China in 2006.
