The Minister of Petroleum, Sharif Ismail, said that the production of natural gas from new fields will start during the months of June and August 2014, to compensate for the declining production of natural gas fields, and to support the national network of gas.
Ismail added to Reuters "the Karam and Assil fields, which operated by Badr al-Din company (Bapetco), will begin production in June, to be added toward 120 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national network of gas." Egypt is working to provide sources of energy needed to run the country's power stations after frequent interruption of the electricity during the summer over the past few years. Ismail added that " the Phase IXa (9a) fields in Burullus area, operated by British Gas, will begin gas production during August 2014, to be added 400 million cubic feet per day from these fields to the national network of gas." The exploration and oil and gas production activity in Egypt was controled by the foreign companies such as BP, BG Group, and Italy's Eni. The petroleum ministry expects that the gas production reached to 5.4 billion cubic feet per day, and the consumption will be 5.57 billion cubic feet per day starting from July 2014.
